As December settles in and the holiday spirit fills the air, I find myself doing what I do every year around this time: taking a step back to reflect on the incredible journey this year has been. There's something about the twinkling lights and the crisp winter air that makes you pause and really think about what matters most.
This year, more than any other, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude for the amazing people who've crossed my path through AJ McKay Creative. From first-time clients, to those who've become colleagues and friends over the years and have trusted me with their most important projects: each collaboration has been a gift.
The Magic of Human Connection in Our Industry
Working in voice over and audio production, I get a front-row seat to some of the most authentic human moments. There's something incredibly special about being in that studio chair when a voice actor nails that perfect take, or when a client hears exactly what they envisioned come to life. These aren't just professional transactions: they're moments of pure creative magic.
This year alone, I've had the privilege of working with voices from every corner of the world. A grandmother from Brooklyn who decided to try voice acting at 68 and absolutely crushed her first commercial. A young man from rural Montana whose deep, resonant voice became the signature sound for a major campaign. A bilingual actress from Miami who seamlessly switched between English and Spanish, bringing authentic cultural nuance to every project.

Each of these collaborations reminded me why I love what I do. It's not just about the technical aspects of recording and production: though those certainly matter. It's about creating space for people to share their stories, their cultures, their unique perspectives with the world.
Celebrating Diversity in Every Project
One of the things I'm most proud of this year is how our client roster has grown to represent such a beautiful spectrum of voices and stories. We've worked on campaigns for companies finally recognizing that their audiences are diverse, complex, and deserve to hear themselves reflected in the media they consume.
When people hear voices that sound like them, speak like them, understand their cultural nuances, it creates an instant connection that no amount of polished production can manufacture.
The Learning Never Stops
What I love most about working with such a diverse group of talent is how much they teach me. Every session is a masterclass in something new.
These aren't just professional development moments; they're glimpses into different worlds, different ways of seeing and experiencing life. When someone trusts you enough to share not just their voice but their story, their background, their journey into this crazy industry, it's humbling.
The Clients Who Become Friends
This year also brought some incredible long-term partnerships that have evolved far beyond typical client relationships. There's the independent podcast producer who started working with us when they had just 100 downloads per episode and now regularly hits six figures. Watching their growth and being a small part of their success story has been incredibly rewarding.
Then there's the advertising agency that took a chance on us for a major campaign early this year. What started as a one-off project turned into a creative partnership that's produced some of my most innovative work. They push me to think differently, and I help them find voices that perfectly match their vision.
These relationships remind me that the best work happens when there's trust, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to excellence. When clients feel comfortable enough to say, "We trust your judgment on this," or "What do you think would work better?": that's when the real magic happens.
Looking Ahead with Gratitude
As we head into 2026, I'm excited about the conversations already happening. New technologies that will make remote collaboration even smoother. Casting opportunities that prioritize authenticity and representation. Projects that will challenge me creatively and push the boundaries of what's possible in audio production, and working with JMC Demos to help create amazing voiceover demos that help foster up and coming talent as well as seasoned veterans to continue to book great work an achieve new goals.
But mostly, I'm excited about the people I haven't met yet. The voice actors who will connect virtually for the first time. The clients with wild ideas who need the perfect voice to bring them to life. The collaborative relationships that will surprise and inspire me in ways I can't even imagine yet.
A Holiday Thank You
So as we wrap up this incredible year, I want to say thank you. To every client who trusted me with their vision. To every voice actor who brought their talent and professionalism to our projects. To every partner who made me better at what I do.
This holiday season, as you gather with your own circles of family and friends, I hope you take a moment to reflect on the voices and stories that have shaped your year. Whether it's the colleague who mentored you, the friend who listened when you needed it most, or even the stranger who shared a moment of kindness: these connections are what make life rich and meaningful.
From my family to yours, here's to a holiday season filled with warmth, connection, and the joy that comes from sharing our stories with the people who matter most. Here's to the voices yet to be heard and the stories yet to be told.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I can't wait to see what stories we'll create together in the year ahead.
